SUBJECT: ESKOM EMPLOYEES WAGE NEGOTIATIONS SETTLED
The CCMA successfully resolved the wage dispute between ESKOM and trade unions National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and Solidarity. Following several meetings under the auspices of the CCMA, a three-year agreement was signed by all parties.
CCMA Director, Cameron Sello Morajane, commends parties for their willingness to remain in the process and exploring options to seek resolution in the matter that often involved discussions that progressed into the early hours of the morning. “The Electricity sector is a crucial stakeholder in the South African energy system, and this settlement represents a commitment to labour peace and economic development. I would also like to commend all the Commissioners involved for their courage and commitment into having this matter resolved, it once again shows that the CCMA is a world-class conflict resolution body committed into making a difference in the working environment” Morajane said. The CCMA remains committed to supporting the labour market in facilitating improved Collective Bargaining to promote orderly and healthy labour relations, as prioritised in the CCMA’s five (5) year Senz’umehluko Strategy.
